Memorial Week

There have been an enormous amount of notes sent home the past few weeks, including many changes. Here are all of the changes in one place, I am very sorry for the inconvenience and confusion this has caused.

- A green form was sent home regarding a location change for our pen pal picnic. The picnic is still on June 6th, however it will take place at Fowler Park. Please send in the new green from as soon as possible.  Because our permission slips are legal documents, we sent the new form home as documentation.

- Picture request for the Moving On Ceremony: Please send 1-2 pictures of your child enjoying Wisconsin type activities. These photos can be from any age bracket. Please email pictures to Terri Field, terri@terrifield.com , as soon as possible.

- Our math fact test sundae party will be on June 10th. A purple note was sent home asking for sundae ingredients donations.

The final math test of the year will be on Thursday, May 29th. The test will cover making reasonable estimates, making conversions (a conversion chart will be provided), solving conversion word problems, volume, and solving number sentences. Look for review packets to come home Tuesday.

District math fact tests will be administered throughout the week. Thank you for helping your child practice their facts throughout the school year!

- Summit School Carnival is May 30th. Don't miss out on the wonderful opportunity to dunk me in the dunk tank at 7pm! (My husband, Kevin, is looking for pay back since I  threw a pie in his face at his school's carnival... whoops... :) )
- Oconomowoc Historical Museum Trip on June 3rd
- Summer Read-A-Thon logs will come home on June 3rd
- Pen Pal Picnic on June 6th

Week of May 19th

It was wonderful to celebrate your child's learning with you on Thursday. I hope you enjoyed reading their writing samples from their time here at Summit School. It is incredible how much they have grown!

Field trip forms for the end of the year field trips are due on Wednesday, the 21st. Please be sure to fill out both sides of the form and pay the three dollar fee in cash. We are still looking for one more chaperone for the June 3rd field trip. If you are interested, please let me know.

Fourth graders will take their last science test for the year on the 21st. Students brought home vocabulary cards on Friday to start studying over the weekend. Students will also be asked to draw, label, and define the different parts of the water cycle, label parts of a stream, and answer questions regarding erosion and weathering that they discovered during our experiments.

If your child has a summer birthday please let me know if they would like to celebrate with their classmates before the school year ends. Please let me know a date that works best for your family so I can have their birthday celebration items prepared for the day.

                                                Odds n' Ends:

Our final day of MAPS testing will be on Tuesday the 20th from 11-12. This week students are taking the reading portion of the assessment.

Next week will be our last week of spelling for the year! Thank you for your support this year to help build your child's spelling skills.

Week of May 12th

Thank you very much for all of the thoughtful gifts during the week. Everything from the flowers to to the recipes, and yummy cookies made my day/week! I cannot wait to try some of the yummy recipes! I look forward to purchasing tickets to a Brewers game and Brew Crew gear with the EXTREMELY generous gift card from the class! Thank you for such a wonderful year! I am truly blessed to have been able to work with  26 intelligent, fun, spunky, and thoughtful fourth graders. I could not have asked for a better class and families to work with this year!

Please be sure to send in a picture of your child from 4K (or around that time) to Amy Blair by Thursday, May 15th. Her email is ablair1003@gmail.com . The photo will be used for a slideshow during the Moving On Ceremony. Bring your tissues!!!

Our final MAPS testing of the year begins next week! Our class will test on Tuesday the 13th and 20th from 11-12.

On Friday we established our nonfiction book club groups. Students are responsible for finding their clubs reading materials. This may require students to bring in nonfiction reading from home or trips to the public library.

We had a fabulous trip to Lapham Peak for the all school field trip. Who would've thought students would be saying "I'm sooo hot" and "I am sweating!" this spring after the winter we had. Third and fourth graders helped with a  service project which to help fill in areas near the steps by the Lapham Peak tower with limestone. It was quite the site to see all 100 plus students working together for such a great cause! Below are a few pictures from the day. Make sure you stop by the room during the Celebration of learning on the 15th to read our classroom newspaper about the events!

Week of May 5th

Science Trip:
Despite the weather, we had a wonderful time on our trip to the Schlitz Audubon Nature Center! It was great to observe the affects water has on land right here in our state! It is a beautiful center and I highly recommend families visiting when the weather is warmer :) Your child should have brought home a free pass for your family good until May 10, 2015.

Here are some snapshots of our day: (click on the image for a larger view)

Book Order:

Our final book order of the year will come home with students this Friday. Now is a great time to stock up on some summer reads! When you shop online there are even more books to choose from! Our online ordering code is J44M7  Book orders are due Friday, May 9th.

Math Test:

Students will take their unit 9/10 math test on Tuesday. The topics will cover various topics from  units 9 and 10. We have and will continue to prepare and review both units for several days leading up to the test. Some of the topics that will be covered include: adding fractions, changing a decimal to a fraction, changing a fraction to a decimal, lines of symmetry, pattern work, and multiplying and dividing decimals.

All School Field Trip Request:

Usually the third and fourth graders complete a service project by picking the pesky garlic mustard! However, with our weather the garlic mustard plants have not bloomed for picking. Instead, this years service project will be to replace limestone at the tower. There will be a 100 student assembly line getting the rock from the pile to the stairs. To help ease the process of carrying the stone we are looking for plastic gallon ice cream buckets. We need at least 100 buckets to help make this possible! If you have any of these buckets please send them in with your child prior to field trip.

Silver Lake Events:

Monday, May 5th, there is a scavenger hunt and activities at Silver lake for students and families to attend to begin to become familiar with the school.

Check out the summer school catalogue for information regarding a "class" for soon to be fifth graders to attend on August 15th. I have heard great feedback about this event and strongly recommend all fourth graders attend.

Reminders and other important information:
 - Check backpacks for blue note that will come home on Monday regarding information for the Moving on Ceremony. We need your help by sending in photos of your fourth grade for the slideshow. Please see the note for specific information
- Check backpacks for a note regarding our last two field trips of fourth grade. This trip should be paid in cash NOT through family access.
- Wednesday- Early release 1:40 dismissal
- All school field trip is Thursday with rain date on Friday
